The following product information is not intended to replace the physician's
or manufacturer's instructions.
Vermox Common Medical Uses:
Vermox belongs to the family of medicines called anthelmintics. Anthelmintics
are medicines used in the treatment of worm infections. Vermox is used
to treat: Common roundworms (ascariasis); Hookworm infections (uncinariasis);
Pinworms (enterobiasis; oxyuriasis); Whipworms (trichuriasis); and More
than one worm infection at a time. This medicine may also be used for
other worm infections as determined by your doctor. It prevents worms
from growing or multiplying in your body. Vermox works by keeping the
worm from absorbing sugar (glucose). This gradually causes loss of energy
and death of the worm.
How to Use Vermox:
Vermox usually comes with patient directions. Read them carefully before
using this medicine. No special preparations or other steps are necessary
before, during, or immediately after taking Vermox. Vermox tablets may
be chewed, swallowed whole, or crushed and mixed with food. Take all of
the Vermox that has been prescribed for you even if you begin to feel
better. Your symptoms may start to improve before the infection is completely
treated. It may be up to 3 days after treatment before the worm is removed
from your stomach and intestines. The amount of time it takes to cure
the infection depends on how susceptible the worm is to Vermox, and how
quickly your own digestive system is moving. If the infection has not
been cured within 3 weeks, a second treatment may be necessary.
Vermox Possible Side Effects:
Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects.
Talk to your doctor if you experience:
- abdominal pain
- diarrhea
- fever
Stop taking Vermox and check with your doctor as soon as possible if
either of the following side effects occur:
- an allergic reaction (swelling of your lips, tongue, or face; shortness
of breath; closing of your throat; or hives)
Side effects other than those listed here may also occur. Talk to your
doctor about any side effect that seems unusual or that is especially
bothersome.
Vermox Precautions:
It is important that your doctor check your progress at regular visits,
especially in infections in which high doses are needed. This is to make
sure that the infection is cleared up completely and to allow your doctor
to check for any unwanted effects. If your symptoms do not improve within
a few days, or if they become worse, check with your doctor.
Treatment of family members and other close contacts may be necessary.
Pinworm is spread very easily to others in close contact with the infected
person. To prevent reinfection, toilets must be disinfected daily, and
clothing, linens, towels, and pajamas must be changed and washed daily.
Before taking Vermox, tell your doctor about any other medical conditions
that you have Vermox is in the FDA pregnancy category C. This means that

this medication without first talking to your doctor if you are pregnant

first talking to your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby. Children
younger than 2 years of age should not take Vermox unless otherwise directed
by your doctor.
