Ultracet Common Medical Uses:
Acetaminophen and tramadol are pain relievers. Tramadol and acetaminophen are combined for use on a short-term basis to relieve acute pain.

How to Use Ultracet:
This medicine comes as a tablet to take by mouth. Take Ultracet exactly as prescribed by your doctor and ask your doctor to explain any part of prescription you do not understand. It may be taken with or without food. For the short-term treatment of pain, the usual dose is 2 tablets taken every 4 - 6 hours, maxiumum of 8 tablets in one day. Do not take a larger dose , take it more often, or for a longer period than is prescribed for you.

Ultracet Possible Side Effects:
Although side effects from Ultracet are not common, they can occur.
If you experience any of the following serious symptoms, call your doctor immediately:

  • fast heartbeat
  • difficulty breathing
  • redness, swelling and itching of the face
  • numbness or tingling of the hands and feet
  • skin rash
  • seizures.

Tell your doctor if you experience less serious side effects:

  • dizziness
  • headache
  • upset stomach
  • diarrhea
  • nausea
  • anxiety

Contact your doctor if you notice other side effects not listed above.

Ultracet Precautions:
Before taking Ultracet, tell your doctor if you are allergic to acetaminophen, tramadol or any other drugs. Tell your doctor what prescription and nonprescription medicines you are taking. Do not take Ultracet without doctor approval if you are taking: tricyclic antidepressant (Amitriptyline (Elavil), Nortriptyline (Pamelor), Doxepin (Sinequan), imipramine (Tofranil)); a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (isocarboxazid (Marplan), phenelzine (Nardil), tranylcypromine (Parnate)); a psychiatric medication (Chlorpromazine (Thorazine), fluphenazine (Prolixin), Haloperidol (Haldol), Loxapine (Loxitane), Mesoridazine (Serentil)) ; Fluoxetine (Prozac, Sarafem), Paroxetine (Paxil), Sertraline (Zoloft), Citalopram (Celexa); narcotic pain reliever (Hydrocodone (Vicodin, Lorcet, Lortab), Propoxyphene (Darvon, Darvocet) and others); Cyclobenzaprine (Flexeril); Bupropion (Wellbutrin, Zyban). This drug may cause dizziness and drowsiness. Avoid alcohol while taking Ultracet. It can add to the drowsiness caused by Ultracet. Do not drive a car or operate machinery until you know how this drug affects you. If you experience dizziness or drowsiness, avoid these activities.

Drug Interactions:
The best way to avoid harmful interactions is to tell your doctor or pharmacist what medications you are currently taking, including any over-the-counter products, vitamins, and herbals. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor approval.

  • Amitriptyline (Elavil)
  • Nortriptyline (Pamelor)
  • Doxepin (Sinequan)
  • monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI)
  • Phenelzine (Nardil)
  • Tranylcypromine (Parnate)
  • Chlorpromazine (Thorazine)
  • Fluphenazine (Prolixin)
  • Fluoxetine (Prozac)
  • Paroxetine (Paxil)
  • Sertraline (Zoloft)
  • Citalopram (Celexa)
  • Meperidine (Demerol)
  • Hydrocodone (Vicodin, Lorcet, Lortab)
  • Morphine (MS Contin, Roxanol)
  • Oxycodone (Roxicodone, Percocet)
  • Propoxyphene (Darvon, Darvocet)
  • Promethazine (Phenergan)
  • Bupropion (Wellbutrin, Zyban)
  • Cyclobenzaprine (Flexeril) and others.

Drugs other than those listed here may also interact with Ultracet.

Over Dose:
Seek emergency medical attention. Symptoms of a Ultracet overdose include seizures; sweating; nausea; vomiting; difficulty breathing; shallow, weak breathing.

Missed Dose:
Missing a dose is usually not a problem. Take the missed dose as soon as you remember it. Do not take another dose for the amount of time prescribed by your doctor. Do not take a double dose of this medication.
