Tramadol common medical uses:
Tramadol is a centrally acting analgesic. Tramadol is used for pain relief.
Tramadol affects chemicals and receptors in the body that are associated
with pain.
How to use Tramadol:
This medication comes as a tablet to take by mouth.It may be taken with
or without food. Tramadol is usually taken every 4 to 6 hours as needed.
Use this medication exactly as prescribed. Do not increase your dose,
use it more frequently or use it for a longer period of time than prescribed
because this drug can be habit-forming. Also, if used for an extended
period of time, do not suddenly stop using this drug without your doctor's
approval. Consult your doctor if the medication stops working well.
Tramadol side effects:
Although side effects from tramadol are rare, they can occur.
This medication may cause:
- dizziness
- weakness
- incoordination
- vomiting
- diarrhea
- stomach upset
- constipation
- headache
- drowsiness
- anxiety
- irritability
- dry mouth, or increased sweating
If any of these effects persist or worsen, inform your doctor.
If you experience any of the following serious effects, call your doctor
immediately:
- redness, swelling, and itching of the face
- fast heartbeat
- numbness or tingling of the hands and feet
- seizures
- difficulty breathing changes in urination.
Continue to take this medication and inform your doctor if you experience
less serious side effects: nervousness, tremor, or anxiety, itching, dry
mouth, or sweating, dizziness, drowsiness, or headache constipation, or
diarrhea. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor
or pharmacist.
Tramadol precautions:
Tell your doctor yif you are allergic to tramadol or any other drugs.
Limit alcohol as it can add to the dizziness or drowsiness effects caused
by the Tramadol. This medication may make you drowsy.Use caution performing
tasks requiring alertness such as driving. Discuss the risks and benefits
with your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are
breast-feeding.
Overdose:
If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or
emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include cold and
clammy skin, shallow, weak breathing, low body temperature, difficulty
breathing, drowsiness, dizziness, lightheadedness, deep sleep, loss of
consciousness, or seizures.
Notes:
Do not share this medication with others.
Missed dose:
If you miss a dose, take the missed dose as soon as you remember it. Do
not take it if it is near the time for the next dose, skip the missed
dose and continue your usual dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to
catch up.
Storage:
Store it at room temperature and away from heat and light. Do not store
in the bathroom. Keep this and all medications out of the reach of children.
Throw away any medication that is outdated or no longer needed.
