Wellbutrin XL Medical Uses
Wellbutrin XL (extended-release) is used to relieve mental depression. This medication effectively treats depression with a low risk of sexual side effects and a low risk of weight gain.

Dosing: The starting dose is 150 mg per day, which your doctor may increase to the usual adult dose of 300 mg per day. The maximum dosage for this drug is 450 mg per day. Always make sure that you take Wellbutrin XL as prescribed by your doctor.

Wellbutrin XL advantages:

  • Wellbutrin XL is taken only once a day
  • There is less risk of side-effects, such as sexual dysfunction and weight gain

Difference between Wellbutrin XL and Wellbutrin SR
Antidepressant Wellbutrin SR (bupropion HCl sustained-release tablets) is used to treat depression as a twice-daily regimen. Wellbutrin XL contains the same active ingredient as Wellbutrin SR (bupropion hcl), but is formulated in an extended-release, once-daily tablet. This means that with Wellbutrin XL, you can take one tablet in the morning, continue with your daily activities, and not worry about remembering to take a second dose.

As with all medications, you may experience side effects when you take Wellbutrin XL. Side effects may be more common shortly after you start treatment. The most common side effects with Wellbutrin XL are weight loss, loss of appetite, dry mouth, skin rash, sweating, ringing in the ears, shakiness, stomach pain, agitation, anxiety, dizziness, trouble sleeping, muscle pain, nausea, fast heartbeat, sore throat, and urinating more often. Seizures may occur (studies showed an incidence of 1/1000 - 4/1000). The chances of having seizures increases with higher doses. If you have nausea, take Wellbutrin XL with food. If you have trouble sleeping, remember to take Wellbutrin XL in the morning. Do not change your dose or stop taking Wellbutrin XL without talking to your doctor.
