Rimantadine Medical Uses
Rimantadine (brand name: Flumadine) is an antiviral medicine in a class
of drugs called Adamantane Derivatives. This drug is used to prevent
or treat certain influenza
(flu) infections (type A). It may be given alone or along with flu
shots. Rimantadine will not work for colds, other types of flu, or other
virus infections. Rimantadine comes as a tablet and a liquid to take
by mouth. It usually is taken once or twice a day for 2-12 weeks.

Order Rimantadine (Flumadine) to treat influenza
The flu is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses.
It can cause mild to severe illness. The best way to prevent this illness
is by getting a flu vaccination each fall. About 5% - 20% of people
in the United States get the flu every year, and more than 200,000 people
are hospitalized from flu complications. Some people, such as young
children, older people, and people with certain health conditions, are
at high risk for serious flu complications.
Dosing: The dose of rimantadine (Flumadine) will be different for
different patients. The following information includes only the average
doses of this medication. If your dose is different, do not change it
unless your doctor tells you to do so.
- For oral dosage forms (syrup, tablets): For the prevention or treatment
of flu:
- Elderly adults: 100 mg once a day.
- Adults and children 10 years of age and older: 100 mg two times
a day.
- Children up to 10 years of age: 5 mg per kilogram (2.3 mg per
pound) of body weight once a day. Children in this age group should
not receive more than 150 mg a day.
