Azithromycin to treat bacterial infections
- Mechanism of action: Azithromycin, like all macrolide
antibiotics, prevents bacteria from growing by interfering with their
ability to make proteins. Due to the differences in the way proteins
are made in bacteria and humans, the macrolide antibiotics do not interfere
with humans' ability to make proteins.
- Dosing: Please note, that the following information
includes only the average doses of azithromycin. If your dose of thes

to do so.
- For bronchitis, strep throat, pneumonia, and skin infections:
Adults and adolescents 16 years of age and older: 500 mg on the first
day, then 250 mg once a day on days two through five.
- For chlamydia infections: Adults and adolescents 16 years
of age and older: 1000 mg taken once as a single dose.
- For sinusitis: Adults and adolescents: 500 mg a day for 3
days
