Generic Name: Clopidogrel Bisulfate
The following product information is not intended to replace the physician's

Common Medical Uses:
Plavix belongs to a class of drugs called platelet aggregation inhibitors.
Plavix is used to prevent strokes and heart attacks in persons who are
at high risk. Plavix prevents platelets (substances in the blood) from
clustering. This helps to prevent blood from forming blood clots.
How to Use Plavix:
Plavix is usually taken once a day with or without food. Follow the directions
on your prescription label carefully. Take the medication exactly as directed.
Do not take more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by
your doctor. Continue to take Plaxix even if you feel better. Do not stop
taking the medication without talking to your doctor.
Plavix Possible Side Effects:
Plavix may cause side effects. Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms
are severe or do not go away:
- diarrhea
- headache or dizziness
- excessive tiredness
- upset stomach
- stomach pain
Some side effects can be serious. The following symptoms are uncommon,
but if you experience any of them, stop taking Plavix and call your doctor
immediately:
- an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; swelling of the lips,
tongue, or face; rash; itching)
- bloody (or black) vomit or stools
- severe headache, confusion, or dizziness
- unexplained bruising or bleeding
- bleeding nose
- weakness or numbness of an arm or a leg
Plavix Warnings & Precautions:
- Don't take if: You are allergic to Clopidogrel, if you have
reduced white blood cells.
- Before taking Plavix , tell your doctor or/and pharmacist:
- if you have kidney or liver disease
- if you have stomach ulcers
- if you have bleeding problems
- if you need to have surgery (including dental surgery).
- Skin & sunlight: No special problems expected.
- Driving, piloting or hazardous work: Clopidogrel may cause
dizziness. Don't drive or pilot aircraft until you learn how medicine
affects you. Don't work around dangerous machinery.
- Discontinuing: Don't discontinue without consulting your doctor,
even if you feel well. It could increase your risk for heart attack
or stroke.
- Pregnancy: Risk category B. Discuss with your doctor whether
or not you should take this medicine if you are pregnant.
- Breast feeding: It is not known whether Plavix passes into
breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
- Not recommended for children under age 18 .
Drug Interactions:
The following drugs and foods may interact with Plavix:
- Aspirin - increased risk of bleeding
- Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) - increased risk of
bleeding
- Enzyme inhibitors - increased effect of enzyme inhibitor
- Phenytoin - increased phenytoin effect
- Xanthines - increased xanthine effect
Missed Dose:
Take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose,
skip the one you missed and go back to your regular schedule. Never take
2 doses at the same time.
Overdose:
If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or
emergency room immediately. Symptoms: bloody vomit or excessive bleeding
from gums, nose, oe rectum, difficult breathing.
