Condylox common medical uses:
This medicine is a cytotoxic agent used to treat genital warts. Condylox
is used to remove certain types of warts on the outside skin of the genital
areas (penis or vulva). The gel is used also to treat warts between the
genitals and the rectum, the solution is not. Neither the gel nor the
solution is used to treat to genital warts inside the rectum, vagina,
or penis. This medication works by destroying the skin of the wart. This
medicine is available only with your doctor's prescription.
How to use Condylox:
This medication is for topical use only. Follow the directions for using
this medicine provided by your doctor. It is usually applied once in the
morning and again in the evening for three days followed by a four days
rest period. This cycle is repeated for up to four times. No more than
0.5 grams of gel ( 0.5 milliliters of solution) should be used each day
of treatment. Do not apply Condylox to any other wart until you discuss
it with your doctor. The total dose of this medicine used on all warts
should not exceed that which would cover an area measuring 1.6 square
inches (10 square centimeters), about the size of a dollar coin.Do not
use large amounts, apply more often or use for a longer period than directed.
To do so may increase the chances that this medicine is absorbed into
the body and that side effects could occur. To apply the solution, use
the applicators that come with the solution or a cotton-tipped applicator.
To apply the gel, use a cotton-tipped applicator or your finger. Never
reuse an applicator or dip a used applicator into the bottle. Allow the
medicine to dry before allowing other skin surfaces to touch the treated
area. Be careful when applying Condylox as it can irritate normal skin
around the application site. If you get medicine on normal skin, wash
it off immediately. Avoid contact with the eyes and mucous membranes.
If contact occurs, immediately wash with plenty of water and contact your
doctor.
Condylox possible side effects:
Possible side effects, that may go away during treatment, include:
- burning
- pain
- redness
- peeling skin
- swelling
- or itching
If they continue or are bothersome, inform your doctor.
Check with your doctor as soon as possible if you experience the followihg
side effects while using Condylox:
- bleeding
- blistering
- crusting, or scabbing of treated skin
- vomiting
- nausea
- diarrhea
- dizziness or trouble sleeping
- bloody urine (solution only)
Condylox precaution:
Tell your doctor before using Condylox if you have allergies to medications,
other medical conditions, or if you take or use other medications. This
medication should be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy or while
breast-feeding. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. Condylox
may not be able to prevent previously healed warts from reappearing or
stop new warts from growing. If your symptoms do not improve within 4
weeks or if they become worse, check with your doctor. This medication
contains alcohol and therefore may be flammable. Do not use near heat,
near open flame, or while smoking.
Missed Dose:
If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as remembered; do not apply it if
it is near the time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and
resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose to catch
up.
Overdose:
If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or
emergency room immediately. This medicine may be harmful if swallowed.
Symptoms of overdose may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, chills, fever,
sore throat, unusual bleeding or bruising.
Drug interactions:
Drug interactions can result in unwanted side effects or prevent a medicine
from doing its job.Talk to your doctor and pharmacist before using any
other prescription or over-the-counter medicines, including vitamins,
minerals, and herbal products. Do not use other topical products on the
same area being treated with Condylox unless otherwise directed by your
doctor. Other topical products may affect treatment with Condylox.
Storage:
Store this medicine at room temperature in the original tightly-closed
container, away from heat and light. Do not freeze. Keep out of the reach
of children. Do not keep outdated medicine or medicine no longer needed.
Be sure that any discarded medicine is out of the reach of children.
