Aciphex Common Medical Uses :
Aciphex is used in the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD),
in the treatment of ulcers and other conditions involving excessive stomach
acid production. This medicine decreases the amount of acid produced in
the stomach.
How to Use Aciphex:
Take Aciphex by mouth, usually once a day, after a meal. This drug specially
formulated to release slowly in your body. Do not chew, crush, or split
the tablets; swallow whole. Continue to take Aciphex even if you feel
well. Do not stop taking this medicine without talking to your doctor.
Aciphex Possible Side Effects:
Side effects from Aciphex are not common, but they can occur.
Continue to take Aciphex and tell your doctor if you experience:
- headache
- dizziness
- upset stomach
- diarrhea
- insomnia
Serious side effects from this medication are rare, but if any of the
following symptoms occur, stop taking drugs and call your doctor immediately:
- itching
- rash or hives
- difficulty breathing or swallowing
Contact your doctor if you notice other effects not listed above.
Aciphex Precautions:
Tell your doctor before taking Aciphex if you are allergic to rabeprazole
or any other medications, what prescription and nonprescription drugs
you are taking. Tell your doctor if you have liver or kidney disease.
Do not take Aciphex without doctor consultation if you are pregnant. Also
consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
Drug Interactions:
The best way to avoid harmful interactions is to tell your doctor of all
prescription and nonprescription drugs you may use especially of:
- digoxin (Lanoxin, Lanoxicaps)
- ketoconazole(Nizoral)
- antibiotics (Ampicillin)
- iron supplements (Feosol, Mol-Iron, Fergon, Femiron).
Other drugs, not listed here, may also interact with Aciphex. Do not
start or stop any medication without doctor approval.
Missed Dose:
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is near the
time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and take only your next regularly
scheduled dose. Do not double the dose to catch up.
Overdose:
If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or
emergency room immediately.
Storage:
Store this medication at room temperature and away from excess heat and
moisture (not in the bathroom). Throw away any medication that is outdated
or no longer needed. Talk to your pharmacist about the proper disposal
of your medication. Keep this and all medications out of the reach of
children.
